
Defence Minister Oboth, UK Envoy Sadler Discuss Regional Stability
The Minister of Defence and Veteran Affairs, Hon Jacob Marksons Oboth today met with the UK’s Special Envoy to the Great Lakes Region, Tiffany Sadler, at the Ministry of Defence headquarters in Mbuya, reaffirming the longstanding partnership between the two nations.
Hon Oboth emphasised the strong historical ties, stating, “The UK and Uganda enjoy a very cordial historical relationship.” He welcomed Sadler’s visit as an opportunity to enhance cooperation on regional security and stabilisation efforts.
Sadler echoed the sentiment, stressing the importance of continued collaboration to foster peace in the Great Lakes Region.
The meeting was attended by senior officials from the Ministry of Defence and the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) officials, including Permanent Secretary Mrs Rosette Byengoma, Chief of Joint Staff Maj Gen Jack Bakasumba, and Deputy Chief of Defence Intelligence and Security Brig Gen Abdul Rugumayo.
Sadler’s delegation included British High Commission representatives such as Defence Attaché Lt Col Ashley Wiseman, Africa Research Group Head Marco Jewell, Political Secretary John Bainbridge, and Political Officer Alice Fidler.
The discussions underscored both nations’ commitment to addressing shared security challenges in the region.
