Major General Sserunkuma Urges Soldiers To Uphold Discipline And Patriotism
The Commander of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces 3 Infantry Division, Major General Wilberforce Sserunkuma, has urged soldiers undergoing the Ideology and Leadership Course to uphold discipline and patriotism, saying these values remain central to military service and operations.
He made the remarks during a lecture of opportunity for participants of the fourth Intake of the Ideology and Leadership Course at the 3 Infantry Division Headquarters in Moroto.
Maj Gen Sserunkuma reminded them to maintain cordial relations with civilians and civil authorities, describing them as key partners in maintaining peace and supporting development.
“Without the people, we cannot succeed. Our mission is to protect them, not to alienate them,” he said.
Reflecting on Heroes Day, he said it commemorates the killing of nine Ugandans in June 1981.
“That history tells us why we serve. We must never allow such atrocities to happen again,” he said.
Maj Gen Sserunkuma highlighted the importance of family stability, noting that a soldier’s performance is influenced by conditions at home.
The Ideology and Leadership Course aims to enhance soldiers’ understanding of the UPDF mission, values, and their role in national development.
